Biography
Thomas Vanz is a French director born in 1991 who started filmmaking in 2014, where he embarked on a storytelling journey delving into the history of the cosmos. Utilizing practical effects, inks, pigments, and various chemical products in his creative process.
First focusing on the macroscopic aspects of the universe, Vanz's artistic endeavors led him to create his debut short film, "Novae," in 2016. This film, which sought to illustrate the grandeur of a supernova, seamlessly blended art and science, ultimately earning the prestigious first prize at the Quantum Festival. Building on this success, Vanz's craft a second film in 2017, "Intra," delved even deeper into the cosmic realm, portraying the captivating journey of descent into a black hole with vivid visualizations of spinning black holes and an artistic interpretation of the white hole theory.
In addition to his cinematic pursuits, Vanz showcased his directorial talents in music videos such as "Bright Side," the second clip for the gifted composer Darius's album "Utopia," and the video "Woven Song" for international pianist Ólafur Arnalds.
In 2019, the Atelier des Lumières, Paris's pioneering immersive museum, commissioned Vanz to create a one-of-a-kind piece presented in a 270-degree format titled "Verse." This immersive installation captivated thousands of visitors over the course of a year. Subsequently, Vanz expanded his portfolio by creating commissioned works and large-scale immersive events for esteemed luxury brands like Dior, Bowmore, DS4, Sulhwasu, and Garnier.
By 2023, Vanz had fully embraced the world of immersive art, embarking on ambitious projects worldwide that incorporated video mapping and LED screens. Through these innovative mediums, Vanz aimed to offer audiences larger-than-life views of the microcosmos.
